Energy Efficient Products

What format must energy labels have? Who is responsible for providing the labels in the right format? What about the product information sheet?

The supplier must ensure that a printed version of the energy label is provided with each product, as indicated in the applicable Regulation.

A large majority of energy labelling regulations require that a printed label accompanies the product meaning that it is included inside the box this is the case of household washing machines and household washer-dryers, refrigerating appliances, household dishwashers, smartphones and slate tablets, and tumble driers.

There are two products where other ways for the label to accompany the product is foreseen:

  • for electronic displays, suppliers are to ensure that  labels in printed form accompany each product and that in addition, the label is  printed on the package or stuck on it as provided in Regulation (EU) 2019/2013;
  • for light sources placed as individual products on the market and in a packaging, suppliers are to ensure that the label is printed on the packaging as provided in Regulation 2019/2015.

The product information sheet does not have to be printed and inserted into the packaging. It is accessible in the EPREL database, via the QR code for the new labels.

The supplier must deliver printed labels and product information sheets to the dealer free of charge, promptly and in any event within five working days upon the dealer's request.
