As the chill of the cold season approaches, it’s time for car owners to consider switching to winter tyres. Winter tyres are specifically designed to provide enhanced safety and performance in cold weather conditions, characterised by icy roads and snowfall. Their unique rubber composition remains flexible in low temperatures, providing better grip and shorter stopping distances compared to regular tyres.

One valuable tool to assist in your search for the perfect winter tyre is the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL). This registry allows consumers to easily find and compare products based on specific environmental and efficiency criteria. When browsing for winter tyres, pay attention to the tyre label, which provides essential information helping you chose the tyre better balancing safety and energy used (for a longer range with the same fuel, gasoline or electricity) including:

  • Snowflake Symbol: Indicates that the tyre meets industry standards for winter performance, on icy and snowy asphalt.
  • Wet Grip Rating: A higher rating suggests better traction and shorter braking distances on wet.
  • Rolling resistance: Consider tyres that contribute to better fuel economy which is beneficial for both your wallet, the autonomy of electric vehicles and environmental purposes.
