In 2013, the EU adopted Regulation (EU) 65/2014, establishing Energy Labelling rules on ovens and range hoods and Regulation (EU) 66/2014, which sets minimum energy efficiency requirements for ovens, hobs and range hoods.
Under these rules, an energy label is not required for hobs. When policy options were assessed for this product group in 2012, it was done following an extensive preparatory study, which discussed opportunities and challenges relating to an energy label for hobs. Among the challenges considered was that the limited spread between the worst and best electric hob, coupled with the absence of standardised technical test procedures allowing to compare the performance of gas and electric hobs based on equivalent metrics and test conditions.
The European Commission, is currently reviewing these rules in light of technological progress. This review, includes assessing a possible introduction of energy labelling for hobs as well as revised Energy Labelling requirements for ovens and range hoods, such as “rescaling” to A-G.
A public consultation, also covering hobs, is expected to be published on the Have Your Say portal and will be open for feedback in all official languages of the EU for 12 weeks.
