EPREL (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) is a comprehensive database operated by the European Commission. Its primary purpose is to provide information about the energy and environmental performance of all models of products that must be sold in the EU with an "energy label": these include household products, as well products for the business-to-business market and tyres.
Tthe Energy Labelling Framework Regulation EU 2017/1369 required the Commission to establish and maintain EPREL (Art. 12). The Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/994 regulates its operational details, such as the modalities for the verification of identity of the suppliers, before they can register their product models.
Some key points about EPREL
- Purpose
EPREL is a tool for citizens, for bulk purchasers, for public procurement, as compass for the green Taxonomy and, in general, a great tool for monitoring the technology progress. EPREL is designed to provide information about efficiency of product models sold in the EU, toghether with related information, such as main performance parameter values and links to repair instructions and main spare parts costs, as provided by the manufacturer. EPREL also provides to National Market Surveillance Authorities (MSA) access to additional non-public product documentation, streamlining their compliance control activity of products placed on the EU single market.
- Scope
EPREL includes information about all models of products sold in the EU with the popular "energy label", i.e. a wide range of products, including household appliances, lighting, and heating equipment, as well as products for business-to-businnes and tyres.
- Access
Anybody can freely access the database to compare the most important charachteristics of products, thus guiding the purchase decision. Search, sort under up to 3 criteria, population per class assessment and, most important, comparison tools are available.
- Compliance
Manufacturers, importers or authorised representatives of manufacturers not established in the EU/EEA are required to register their product models in EPREL 'before' they place those products on the EU single market.
- Transparency
EPREL aims to increase transparency and encourage competition among manufacturers to offer better and better products,
EPREL helps consumers make more informed decisions to reduce energy consumption and costs and chose more durable products.
How to use EPREL
On the EPREL home page, you see a map of all "product groups". A group may include several different products (e.g. the group "displays" includes TVs, monitors or signage, the group "commercial refrigerators" includes 5 types of refrigerators, from food to beverages or ice-cream, etc.).
From the home page you can chose a product group to examine. Clicking on each, you are directed to the specific product page. For example, by clicking on Dishwashers, you are redirected on a page like this:
You can see a detailed description of each model by clicking the More Details button. For some product groups the information is extremely detailed (e.g. for "light sources" includes even the specific "Spectral power distribution" graph):
General Overview
After clicking on More Details, you get an overview of the parameter values about the specific product model:
For some product groups, whose legislation has been recently reviewed, you may find weblinks to complementary information such as list of spare parts, their indicative cost, repair instructions, or even dismantling information for recyclers.

Report models
A specific feature (see here below) allows you to report (anonymously or providing your email address) an error in the registered data: both, the supplier and market surveillance authorities, will be notified.
You are requested to confirm you are not a robot and to provide your e-mail address to confirm your report. You can chose if to forward your e-mail to the authority or the supplier or both (for providing explanations). If you do not check the boxes, your report remains anonym. In any case you have to confirm your submission by clicking on the e-mail you receive.
