A public consultation has been launched by the Commission today as part of review of 4 EU regulations to encourage the manufacture of more energy-efficient refrigerators.

The European Commission is seeking feedback on the draft updates to 4 technical regulations on ecodesign and energy labelling of central space heaters and water heaters such as boilers or hydronic heat pumps. The consultations are open from 28 November and close on 23 January 2026.

In a practical step toward promoting sustainable consumption, the European Commission has introduced a repairability index for household tumble dryers.

This event forms part of the preparatory work for the 2026 omnibus on energy efficient product legislation and follows up on the high-level discussions held during the recent Implementation Dialogue with Commissioner Jørgensen in October 2025.

Each year over 400 million external power supplies (EPS) are sold in the EU. To increase consumer convenience as well as resource and energy efficiency, the Commission has revised today the ecodesign requirements for these devices. Manufacturers will have 3 years to prepare for the changes.
